DIY Doggy Donuts

Homemade donuts that will make your dog go nuts!

Who else loves perusing Pinterest for easy doggy DIYs?

Well, today I woke up and found out that it was National Donut Day and immediately jumped into action to find the perfect recipe to create my own pup friendly donuts.

After weeding through a lot of tasty sounding recipes, I landed on the *easiest* one for me to achieve today. Thank you to Sunny Day FamilyΒ for the inspiration!

Peanut Butter and Bacon Doggy Donuts

So here’s the low down:

  • 1 cup of flour (I used wheat flour because that’s what was in the pantry)
  • 1 cup of oats
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil
  • 1/2 cup peanut butter (I used chunky peanut butter because that’s what I had on hand… BUT I would definitely recommend creamy if you are trying it yourself, the chunky PB added a bit more weight to my finished product)
  • 2 eggs

So take ALL of that good stuff and get to mixing!

Once everything is thoroughly mixed, it is time to form the donuts.

Now, the original Pinterest post called for using a fancy donut pan, which seems super easy and foolproof. However, my local Walmart did not have anything of the sort so I went rogue and formed the donuts all by hand.

After you get everything shaped how you’d like it, you pop those bad boys in the oven for 14 minutes (or until they are cooked all the way though, don’t forget that you put eggs into this so cooking thoroughly is a must)

Icing Icing Baby

Once you’ve taken these sweet little nuts of dough out of the oven, you’ve gotta let them cool off enough to put some icing and “sprinkles” on them.

For the icing you’ll need:

  • 1 tub of yogurt (the original pin calls for greek yogurt, but I just used plain, unflavored yogurt we had in the fridge)
  • 1 pack of bacon bits (real bacon, not those icky salty soy bits)

The icing process is pretty simple, all you have to do is slap some yogurt on top of the donuts and sprinkle some bacon on top!

Easy peasy!

After you frost these bad boys, you just need to stick them in the freezer to firm up the yogurt so the donuts aren’t too drippy. But if your pup just can’t wait, go ahead and let them chow down!

Your doggy won’t be able to resist these donuts!

Let me know if you try this recipe out! I had a lot of fun baking these cute donuts and my pups had a lot of fun eating them!

Happy National Donut Day to everydoggy!
